Welcome

Australia is a land of old and new, where heritage and tradition extending back 40,000 years blends with contemporary culture. This exciting blend of ancient and cutting-edge expression is what makes Australia the dynamic and innovative society that it is today.

The Australian Embassy's Culture Centre website is dedicated to Australian arts in Japan, and Australia-Japan artistic collaboration. It aims to provide Australians with useful information on the Australian arts activities in Japan. The Embassy also issues ""What's on Newsletter" and "Japanese Art Scene Monitor". We welcome your feedback on this website.

An Australian Journey in Setouchi 2010

An Australian Journey in Setouchi 2010

The Setouchi International Art Festival is being held around the port of Takamatsu and on seven islands for 100 days.  Seventy-five artists and artist groups from 18 countries participate in the Festival.  Australian artists are showing their works on three islands: Cameron Robbins, Sue Pedley and Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro in the Kou Community of Teshima, Dadang Christanto on Shodoshima, and James Darling and Lesley Forwood on Ogijima.  Their “work with the community” is shown on this website below.  Please come to see the Australian works and share the Australian story on the islands.  The Festival is until the end of October 2010.

Australia House Residency Programs 2010

Australia House Residency Programs 2010

The Australia House is an exciting art project which started as part of the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial in 2009, one of the world’s largest international art festivals held in the rustic mountainous Echigo-Tsumari region of Niigata Prefecture.   In this year again from June to August,  the House provided opportunities for cultural exchange between Australia and Japan through the Artist in Residence Program and Japan Australia Art Musings by art students from both countries.
